Abstract

On 23 September 02, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, in conjunction with the City of Houston, Harris County and Harris County Flood Control District, will be unveiling its Buffalo Bayou and Beyond Master Plan. An 18-month planning program involving public workshops and community meetings, the Master Plan seeks to restore the Buffalo Bayou to an ecologically functional system as it meanders through central Houston. Key programmatic elements of the Plan, including improved water quality, increased wildlife habitat, and implementation of sustainable, low-impact development techniques will improve the health and long-term environmental viability of the Greater Galveston Bay Eco-region. Key program initiatives outlined within the Master Plan will be presented and discussed. The focus of the presentation will be on environmental, flood management, and landscape enhancement issues the plan addresses.
