Abstract

The purpose of The Galveston Bay Plan is to address threats to the entire bay resulting from pollution, development, and overuse. This Plan is the culmination of research and recommendations which began in 1987 when the U.S. Congress designated Galveston Bay as an Estuary of National Significance. The Galveston Bay Plan identifies and describes the problems specific to the Galveston Bay system, based on sound scientific research. The Plan prescribes custom-tailored management initiatives to solve the Bay's problems utilizing a comprehensive, ecosystem-based approach.
