Abstract

This book is an illustrated, nontechnical guide to the 502 species of fishes known to occur in the northern Gulf of Mexico between Brownsville, Texas, and Tampa Bay, Florida. The accounts provide concise descriptions of the families and species of this area, with brief comments on range, rarity, and other information as needed. Coverage includes all species of the northern Gulf described or recorded in the literature before the end of 1973, ranging in depth from estuaries to approximately twenty-five fathoms.
