Abstract

The proposed onshore deep-water port project would involve deepening the existing ship channel into Galveston and extending the channel farther into the Gulf of Mexico. Also proposed is the construction of a crude oil pipeline distribution system, originating at Pelican Island, and an oil storage tank farm. This statement assesses ecological, social, and economic impacts expected to result from the proposed project. Included in the analysis are discussions regarding possible means of reducing the detrimental impacts, including mitigative measures. Various alternatives to the proposed project are also discussed.
