Abstract

Data presented in this paper indicate chronic levels of some chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides are present in oyster (Crassostrea virginica) tissue from all Texas bay areas sampled, including Galveston Bay. Levels of residue in various species of fish tissue from the lower Laguna Madre area periodically contain enough toxicants to cause concern of effects on reproduction. Incidence of DDT residue in oyster tissue varied slightly between 1965 and 1967, but remained at essentially the same level of contamination. Incidence of Dieldrin residue increased from 1% in 1965 to 23% in 1967. Incidence of Endrin residue increased from .02% to 1% in 1966 and 1967.
