Abstract
This report focuses on the recreational use and development of the five major barrier islands along the Texas coast: Galveston Island, Matagorda Island, St. Joseph Island, Mustang Island, and Padre Island. Examination and analysis of current recreational use and development, along with the factors that enhance or inhibited this use and development are undertaken for each of the identified regions. This was accomplished through an extensive literature search, personal interviews, and on-site reconnaissance through 1977.
