Abstract
A generally unrecognized condition of polysulfides in the soil, cat clays, exists in many coastal marshes from New Jersey to Texas which places limitations upon their development, either for wildlife, pasture, or cropland. When these soils are drained and dried the pH of the soil becomes too low to grow any useful plants.
