Abstract

This paper deals with the systematics and distribution of Gulf of Mexico fishes belonging to the family Carangidae, which includes such food and game species as the pompanos, amberjacks and cavallos. The geographic limits of the study extend from the mouth of the Rio Grande in Texas to Cape Romano, Florda. In addition, three species not known from this region are included for comparative purposes.
