Abstract
The absence of juvenile penaeid shrimp in the shallow Gulf of Mexico is discussed. Reference is made to collections in high salinity areas such as along the beaches in East Texas and in West Bay, an arm of Galveston Bay. Salinity in broad ranges is determined to be inconsequential to young shrimp. Habitats where located along beaches could offer protection from predators. The occurrence of juveniles on outer beaches is however rare.
