Abstract
Episodes of sinking subdivisions in Baytown, Tex., and in the Houston-Galveston area led to formation of a Coastal Subsidence District to set fees and curtail groundwater use. The board is also forcing industry and utilities to use surface water. Technological solutions aimed at cleaning surface waters, reusing wastewaters, and saving energy are described as discussed at a recent roundtable held by Ecodyne Corp., Ill. The wet-dry cooling tower is featured. Optimizing recycling cost effectiveness with a water-wastewater survey is recommended.
