Abstract

The Holocene deposits of the Galveston area lie on Pleistocene sediments that were subaerially exposed during the last glacial advance. The stratigraphic break between Pleistocene and Holocene is generally recognizable by erosional and weathering characteristics, although in some places the boundary must be arbitrarily drawn. The Holocene sediments consist of basal transgressive deposits overlain by regressive deposits formed by coastal deposition after sea level reached its present position.
