Abstract
The proposed design of the Todd shipyard provides for steel shortage on a fleet of about twenty 1,000-ton barges. After the steel arrives by barge, it will be sandblasted automatically in an airtight building, carried by conveyor through a plate fabricating area containing the most modern machines developed for the industry, and progress to the subassemble, section assemble, and ship assembly areas, respectively. A 1,400-ft-long and 200-ft-wide floating dry dock is planned for repair and launch activities. The linear flow of the operation from water to land and back to water resembles a large inverted U-shape, with each foot of the U at the water's edge.
