Indiana University, Bloomington; Indiana State University; the State University of New York at Binghamton; and the State University of New York at Stony Brook will test the software. PACLink is scheduled for general release in the first half of 1992. Utilizing PACLink, users will be able to select a remote NOTIS OPAC from a menu, search it using local OPAC commands, and retrieve results formatted according to local OPAC conventions. PACLink utilizes the NISO Z39.50 standard, Information Retrieval Service Definition and Protocol Specification for Library Applications, and TCP/IP Internet connectivity. It is anticipated that a future release of PACLink will permit linkage to non-NOTIS OPACs that utilize Z39.50. Other planned enhancements include patron-initiated ILL requests and the ability to search several remote NOTIS catalogs simultaneously. CARL ANNOUNCES UNCOVER2 Since its introduction in 1988, UnCover has grown to include over 2,000,000 article citations from more than 10,500 unique journal titles. The introduction of UnCover2, CARL Systems' new add-on service, takes the next step in access by providing easy-to-use article ordering and delivery via fax. UnCover2 provides: (1) online ordering; (2) fax delivery to any designated machine; (3) one-hour turnaround for selected articles --24 hours a day/7 days a week; (4) payment by MasterCard, VISA, or deposit account; (5) usage reports for managers; (6) copyright payments to publishers; (7) itemized costing for copyright and service fees; and (8) cooperative agreements with other document suppliers, including the British Library and the Colorado Technical Reference Center. UnCover2 allows the user, whether access is from a library, home, or office terminal, to perform the search, place the order, and handle payment without adding to the workload of interlibrary loan services. The availability of articles through UnCover2 is prompted on screen at the article level. Optical imaging and telefacsimile technologies are used to deliver the full text of any article found in UnCover2, within 24 hours or less. Charges will be determined by the copyright fee plus a CARL Systems service charge of $6.50. The combined cost averages under $10.
