Abstract

This is intended as a celebration of Galveston Bay. Along much of its shore just getting to the edge can be difficult because the waterway is boxed in by a large population center with a major port and an enormous concentration of petrochemical plants. Where can we go to enjoy the bay? Is it safe to eat the oysters? How are we to understand the low terrain of a coastal estuary where land and water merge, creating an edge of uncertain identity?
