Abstract

The dynamics movements of the ocean are of interest and importance to all who use the ocean or its borders for recreation or livelihood. Yet the popular books and articles on waves and tides leave much to be desired, through a lack of accuracy, a superficial approach, or a failure to explain the underlying causes for many of the curious phenomena involved. This book is an attempt to strip the subject of its sometimes complex mathematics and make the movements of the sea understandable without sacrificing accuracy and comprehensive. It is hoped that this book may also be a useful introduction to the oceanography is as yet inadequate for the easy reading of advanced texts in physical oceanography.
