Abstract

Ground truthing investigations revealed modern debris as the source of many anomalies. Most of this debris was deposited during previous maintenance dredging of the channel and may impede future dredging operations. The high degree of magnetic activity debris and those associated with historical materials. Three localities are recommended for further testing to assess their potential for National Register of Historic Places eligibility. One locality contains a scatter of hand-formed common bricks and may be indicative of an associated buried hull structure. Two other localities are in an area containing wharf pilings and a ferry landing which are associated with commercial/industrial enterprises on Hog Island predating the 1940's.
