Abstract
This video discusses the various agencies involved in a navigation project between the Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay in which dredging materials from the expansion of the ship channel are used to benefit the marine environment. The project is overseen by a subcommittee called the Beneficial Uses Group. The goals of the 50 year project include: 1)construction of 4,250 acres of salt marsh, 2) construction of a 12 acre bird island near Bolivar Marsh, 3) construction of boater access and anchorage, 4) restoration of Goat Island, and 5) restoration of Redfish Island. The site selection process is outlined, including the selection of a smaller-scale demonstration site.
