Sampling of a Spartina alterniflora marsh artificallly established on unconfined dredged materials in 1983 and a control marsh at Chocolate Bay, Texas was undertaken for the third consecutive year to continue comparison monitoring. Quantitative sampling parameters included above-ground biomass (April and October), percent cover, number of live and dead stems, and height. Qualitative observations were made of marsh conditions, sediments, water regime and wildlife utilization. Overall, the control marsh exhibited a steady decline, with undetermined causes. However, the transplanted marsh fluctuated in productivity relative to nutrient fluxes and evironmental conditions.
