Abstract

The Texas Water Resources Institute was pleased to be able to take the lead role in planning and organizing this symposium dealing with water quality and biological issues pertaining to the Upper Trinity River Basin....Major goals of this symposium were to summarize research findings on the nature and biological impact of water quality problems and to identify gaps in our current knowledge base that may hinder attainment of an optimum aquatic ecosystem. This was accomplished through a combination of formal presentations, panel discussions, and group meetings. These Proceedings contain the written record of these deliberations. Hopefully, this symposium will be a springboard to kick off the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Quality Assessment Program which is scheduled to get under way in 1991.
