Abstract

The Galveston Bay Project was initiated (1) to determine the freshwater inflow needed to sustain a desirable aquatic environment; (2) to evaluate the cost of achieving incremental levels of water quality; (3) to determine the social benefits associated with incremental improvements in water quality; (4) to determine the benefits to marine life associated with incremental improvements in water quality; and (5) to determine the optimum management program for the Galveston Bay System. The purpose of this report is to summarize the results of the Galveston Bay Project (GBP) with particular emphasis on the final phase of the project which was completed in December 1974. included in this report is a summary of the obejctives of the Galveston Bay project, a description of the data base developed during the program, a summary of the management tools developed, a summary of individiual work taskes completed during the project, and a summary of the alternative corrective measures and management plan developed in the final phase of the project.
