Abstract
An important objective of this chapter is the presentation, comparison, and discussion of the various one-dimensional hydrodynamic and mass transfer models which have been used in estuaries. Thus it is necessary to consider the most general form of these equations in which quantities such as concentration and velocity are functions of both longitudinal position and real time. The general equations are employed as the basis for evaluation of simpler mathematical models which use non-tidal advective velocities.
