Abstract
A late summer survey of eight Spartina alterniflora marshes in Texas and Florida was conducted. The live biomass is equivalent to or slightly greater than that found on the north Atlantic coast, but the dead biomass is considerably greater. Grass height--biomass relationships previously described for North Carolina and Rhode Island marshes are valid for the Gulf marshes. The slopes of the regression equations appear to increase with decreasing latitude and reflect changes in stem density and weight.
