Abstract
On 5 August 1970, three flightless pintails were found on a 555 ha marsh in Chamber County, Texas, approximately 1-6 km south of the Wallisville Dam Site. In addition, a flightless Northern shoveler was captured in the same marsh on 9 September 1969. These birds were molting females that had probably bred further north and subsequently migrated to the Texas coast before beginning their post-nuptial molt. This represents the first record of pre-molt migration in pintails and Northern shovelers wintering on the Texas Gulf coast.
