Abstract

Letter written in New York, NY to Isaac Dwayne MacVeagh regarding Mr. Arnold's upcoming travels to Philadelphia, PA.

Description

Dec. 13th. My dear Mr. MacVeagh, Boston has been very kind to me, but I am extremely anxious to see more of America, and above all I am looking forward to coming to Philadelphia, where I shall meet you. Mrs. Arnold thinks we are to stay with a Mr. J.W. Coates when we go to Philadelphia; do you know them? At any rate let us settle to dine with you the 28th, our last evening in Philadelphia. You mentioned the only two people I know there, so I could suggest no one else. But I have the enclosed letter, which perhaps you will forward to its destination, doing as you please about asking Mr. Rawle. I wish you would settle for me which two of my lectures will be the best to give in Philadelphia. My address till Monday is 78, Park Avenue, New York (Mr. Charles Butler’s). Most sincerely yours, Matthew Arnold.
