Abstract

Highland Bayou is a small coastal stream located in Galveston County northwest of the city of Galveston, Texas. The bayou is navigable by small boats from its mouth on Jones Bay to a point upstream near Hitchcock, Texas, the established head of navigation. An authorized Federal flood control project for Highland Bayou now is in its late preconstruction planning stage, with construction scheduled to start in Fiscal Year 1972. This construction would enlarge the bayou. An authorized extension of the partly constructed Federal hurricane flood protection project for Texas City and vicinity would provide protection to the westerly portion of La Marque and to Hichcock. For the purposes of this report, the hurricane flood protection project is considered to have no effect on the desired Section 107 project.
