Abstract

The action of maintaining the existing Federal navigation project in Galveston County, Texas by periodic removal of shoaled materials will maintain the carrying capacity of the channel for efficient movement of the Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry. The action will remove or disturb motile and bottom dwelling organisms and result in an increase in turbidity during dredging and disposal operations. Maintenace will be accomplished by hydrolic pipeline dredges, and dredged materials will be disposed of in an open water area near theproject. Open water disposal operations may temporarily degrade water quality.
