Abstract

This report presents updated estimates and revised projections of population for census tracts and sewer service areas within the Lake Houston watershed. During the initial phase of water quality management planning (1975-1978), population estimates and projections for the planning area were prepared by the Houston-Galveston Area Council staff based upon growth trends during the periods from 1961 to 1970 and 1971 to 1975. Data on growth during the 1976 to 1978 period indicated that parts of the planning area are experiencing population changes at markedly different rates than were forecast in the earlier study. Consequently, one of the planning recommendations which emerged from the initial Water Quality Management Plan was that high priority be given to updating the population and land use estimates and projections. The Lake Houston Watershed was assigned highest priority for evaluation and update.
