A dynamic museum for the legacy of the confederacy, Marietta, Georgia

Abstract

Thesis Statement Through imagery, contrast, and contextual regionalism, architecture becomes a continuation of living history which reflects an underlying basis of classicism. Facility Type The facility type will be similar to a history museum; however, in addition to static artifacts and relics, there will be spaces used for current events. This integration of still with movement creates the dynamic museum. Scope of Project The dynamic museum is to become a landmark of heritage for the Atlanta area in specific and the entire South in general. The facility will include a theater, a library, a ball room, exhibition halls, meeting rooms as well as ancillary spaces. The area will encompass approximately 80,000 square feet. The museum will provide display areas for historical artifacts as well as spaces for current events of the South. Context Statement The site for this project Is located in the historic town of Marietta, Georgia. Marietta is located 20 miles north of Atlanta at an altitude of 1,118 feet and a population of approximately 25,000. It Is in the seat of Cobb County and is built around an oldfashioned town square.
