Description

Not a pretty picture—but a real one. Painted ships on painted seas do not reveal just how wet and cold it could be. This photograph shows both. Taken from the fore top, this image shows a helmsman hanging on aft, while two men ascend the main probably to furl sail while another, nearly waist-deep in seawater, makes his way to the rail. A German submarine found Invercauld in 1916. Invercauld in heavy seas. German submarine sunk the ship in 1916.
