Title: Correlates of educational and occupational goals of the Mexican American adolescent
Author: Jamison, Mary R.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the educational and occupational goals of Mexican American adolescents, the degree of identification with the Mexican American value orientation, and parent- adolescent conflict. Results from the study indicated that the hypothesized inverse relationship between values and goals was partially supported: higher Spanish language usage was associated with low occupational goals for males. The hypothesized positive relationship between goals and conflict was not supported: higher educational goals were associated with less conflict. The hypothesized inverse relationship between conflict and values was generally supported although the results differed to some extent for male and female respondents.
