Abstract: As an intellectual discipline, archives administration today embraces studies in numerous functional areas: records management, which may be defined as that field of general management that deals with the creation, maintenance, and disposal of records; archival buildings and storage facilities; records preservation and rehabilitation; archival arrangement; archival description; reference service, including photoduplication; exhibition, interpretation, and publication of archival collections; and the administration of personal papers. Archivists are employed by government agencies, colleges, universities, libraries, museums, historical associations, corporations, research firms, medical institutions, professional associations, and religious and fraternal organizations.
