Abstract

The number of people with disabling conditions is enormous and increasing each year. Yet housing which accommodates the needs of people with disabilities, and useful information has not been widely available To date, this information has been limited to a few special researchers and designers who have developed an expertise in this field. Architecture, is creating an environment for people and that means all "people" are not mearlv limited to the "able -bodied" but it is universal design for all people. A "home" for the disabled should be a healing and personal place of living, rather than a cold and sterile place like a typical public institution. I believe this can be achieve through its scale, proportion, order, color, material and even symbolism and metaphor.
