Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the behavior of a structural sandwich panel, consisting of thín, steel facing plates, a thick polyurethane core, and a channel section located on one edge of the pane. The channel section serves as a rigid web member of the cross section.

Experimental tests were made on simply-supported sandwich panels subjected to a uniformly distributed load to determine normal stresses in the facing plates, maximum deflection and the effect of short-time creep. Stresses and deflections measured in the tests are compared to the values calculated by analytical formulas presented in Chapter Three.
