Abstract
This thesis will attempt to answer some of the major questions concerning the role of the military in under developed nations, particularly those in Africa. A few of these questions to be answered are: what can and what has the military as an organization accomplished in the area of modernization while not in control of the government; why does the military take control of the governments of Africa and other non-industrialized areas; what are the prospects for success or failure of the military leadership in achieving its goals for development in the nations in which it has gained controlled?
