Abstract

Corn grown for grain in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle areas is rapidly becoming a major factor in the economic structure of the region. The acreage devoted to corn production has increased approximately 195 per cent between 1964 and 1969. County Agents of these areas anticipate corn planted for grain harvest to exceed 195,000 acres in the 1969 crop year. A main contribution to this increase in corn production is the availability of mechanical machines to harvest the corn without excessive hand labor.
