Abstract: The major problem in plant layout is to determine the most economical relative location of facilities . A facility is a separate activity having work relationships with each of the other activities of the same layout . In an industrial concern , for example , a facility may consist of one machine tool , a group of machines which must operate as a unit , a department within a plant or the plant itself if a group of plants is being considered for a layout .
