Abstract

This study addresses two problems. First, it responds to the need for additional research in the area of leadership theory in education by examining the actions of a notable leader. Superintendent A. E. Wells, as he directed the potentially volatile process of school desegregation in Abilene. Second, this study addresses the problem of a lack of desegregation research in Texas by providing an account of the desegregation of the public schools in Abilene.
