Shamrock Island, in Nueces County, Texas, is experiencing severe erosion. The island contains unique birs habitat and valuable wetlands. The Conservancy, obtained funding for a habitat restoration and protection project. SMA was engaged to provide engineering services that included planning, permitting design, and construction observation. The remedy involved a sand-filled geotube breakwater, five acres of newly vegitated wetlands, and a feeder beach to ensure the continued existance of the only royal tern nesting beach in south Texas. |
