Abstract

Trace metals were surveyed for the Houston Ship Channel and tributaries. Silver, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, copper, nickel, lead, and zinc were the trace metals studied. Of these, silver and mercury were the only ones which could not be quantified. The remaining trace metals were all below their marine chronic criteria. This study provided new observations of clean trace metal data and included comparisons with previous clean measurements. These comparisons were made in two parts of the Houston Ship Channel: tidal San Jacinto River upstream of industrial discharges and the Houston Ship Channel above the San Jacinto River confluence.
