Abstract

In order to reduce unwanted bycatch of juvenile red snapper, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has proposed an amendment to the Fishery Management Plan. Fishermen in the shrimp fishery of the Gulf of Mexico may be required to use bycatch reduction devices in shrimp trawls. The purpose of this requirement is to rebuild the overfished red snapper stock.
