Galveston Bay habitat conservation blueprint: A plan to restore the habitats and heritage of Galveston Bay: Sites, strategies, and resources

The Galveston Bay system supports many activities including fishing, tourism, recreational boating, petrochemical, birding spots, and fisheries. Many habitats such as marshes, oyster reefs, beaches, sandbars, mud and sand flats, woodlands, cypress swamps, prairies, open water, and agricultural lands provide food, shelter, and clean water for the plants and animals. These habitats protect our land and water, the economy, and our way of life. Processes such as subsidence, erosion, and submergence along with the activities which promote them (nonpoint sources of pollution and channelization) are destroying the wetlands. Restoration and preservation of these significant habitats are the only ways to maintain these resources. The target areas are: East Bay, West Bay, Trinity Bay, San Jacinto River, and Galveston Bay.
