Abstract

This study was initiated to evaluate the potential threat of gas supersaturation to both free-living and cultured fish subjected to a heated discharge. Research concerning the relationship between gas supersaturation and thermal discharges is limited. Variables such as the increase in temperature of the cooling water across the condensers and the dissolved gas concentrations of the incoming cooling water must be considered. The occurrence of gas-bubble disease in fish in heated effluent waters has yet to be fully studied.
