Abstract
Background -- The 1992 update of the Texas Water Plan projected population growth and identified water supply needs into the 21st Century. Substantial immediate needs exist in areas supplied by the San Jacinto River Authority and in south- central Texas, particularly in the Corpus Christi and San Antonio regions. Long-term needs are projected for the Houston metropolitan area. In an effort to address water supply concerns of these major growth centers, the Texas Water Development Board (the Board) has initiated the Trans-Texas Water Program. Goals and Objectives -- The principal objective of the Trans-Texas Water Program is to manage the state's water resources to meet the needs of anticipated economic development in southeast and south-central Texas in an environmentally sound manner.
