Abstract

The jurisdictions selected for analysis in this study are the cities of Houston and Galveston and their respective counties, Harris and Galveston. Six Houston neighborhoods, (River Oaks, Third Ward, Oak Forest, Magnolia Park, Moody Park, and Sharpstown) and two Galveston neighborhoods (Alamo and O'Connell) were analyzed. Ten open space areas were also studied to determine their need for protection and their capabilities for meeting open space and recreation needs. In addition, the Brazos and San Jacinto Rivers, Buffalo Bayou, and coastal beaches were studied to determine their potential for providing additional recreation opportunities. The study includes the identification and study of issues and problems, the completed Resource Potentials Inventory Forms used in each area for the analyses, and individual analyses for each neighborhood studied.
