Abstract

The report summarizes presently available information pertaining to the quality of the Galveston Bay system; evaluates that information with respect to applicable standards, statutes, regulations, and criteria; and recommends a program which will lead to compliance with established water quality uses. The area considered in this report includes all of Galveston Bay, Texas, and its major tributary streams and embayments. Nearly half of Galveston Bay is presently closed for shellfish harvesting due to excessive bacteriological contamination and the proximity to sewage and industrial waste effluents
