Abstract

This report includes a background to the problem of water quality and its solutions to safeguard water quality. Computerized maps called Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are discussed, along with Texas agencies beginning work with GIS and GIS research at Texas Universities. A method to identify groundwater systems that may be particularly vulnerable to pollution called DRASTIC is overviewed. Also included is information on wellhead protection programs.
