Wallisville Dam - the persistent folly.
MetadataShow full item record
The potential environmental effects of the Wallisville Dam include a reduction of freshwater, sediment and nutrients flowing to Galveston Bay, degradation and loss of vital Trinity delta wetlands, exclusion of marine organisms from the nursery wetlands upstream from the dam, and changes in the biotic community of Trinity and Upper Galveston Bays. Shrimp harvest may decline 65 percent and significant losses may be inflicted on the already stressed oyster fishery. The Wallisville Dam will permit full utilization of Lake Livingston; jointly, the two reservoirs will seriously impact the $209 million commercial fishery and $576 million sport fishery.
