Abstract
In spring, samples were taken with bar-seines and trawls from Sabine Lake, Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay, Aransas Bay, and the Lower Laguna Madre to study brown shrimp (Penaeus aztecus) growth, movements, seasonal abundance trends, and environmental needs. The shrimp was abundant in samples from Galveston Bay, Aransas Bay, and the Lower Laguna Madre. Slow growth of juveniles during April in upper coastal bays was attributed to low temperature. Many, however, were 70 to 80mm long by late May, because growth accelerated as bays warmed.
