Abstract

Ecological studies conducted in Moses Lake, Jones Bay, Cedar Bayou, and Trinity Bay of the Galveston Bay system are summarized. Studies were set up to observe larger animals and plants of the project areas, to determine the extent and quality of the nursery environment for commercial and recreational fishery species, and to examine related environmental features before, during, and following construction of habitat modification. Various gear was used to sample the biota, including bag seines, bar seines, drag seines, otter trawls, marsh nets, and plankton nets. Each sampled a standard area. Other samples were taken with an Ekman dredge, with core tubes, and by hand. Hydrographic studies included sampling for salinity, temperature, turbidity, and DO.
