Abstract

B. cavernata is a common inhabitant of the Texas coast. Approximately 40 of these anemones were collected on the jetty rocks of Galveston Island to look for protozoans on the external surfaces, in the coelenteron, and in the surrounding seawater. The protozoans which were found as epizoites or symbionts are Vahlkampfia, Saprodinium, Euplotes, Paraeuplotes, Paramecium, Vorticella, Cohnilembus, Anophrys, and Uronema. The relative abundance and site of infection of these protozoans are tabulated.
